BRIEF PROFILE OF
BRIAN G. SHERMAN, M.D.

 

Brian Sherman, M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist who has been fellowship trained in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus. He is the founder of North Florida Pediatric Ophthalmology Consultants – one of the most progressive eye care practices in the South. Dr. Sherman’s unique background brings experience in many different areas of eye surgery including cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation, glaucoma, oculopastic surgery, eye muscle surgery, pediatric and laser surgery.

Dr. Sherman graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut and received medical school training at Boston University. Dr. Sherman completed his eye surgery residency at Boston University Medical Center. His fellowship in advanced surgical training and medical management of pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus was at the New England Medical Center, Tufts University, Boston, Massachusetts. As a fellow Dr. Sherman continued to advance his skills in microsurgical strabismus technique, mastering the art of the adjustable suture and the use of Botox. Upon completion of his fellowship, Dr. Sherman was appointed Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Tufts University Medical School.

In June 1996, Dr. Sherman joined South East Eye Clinic as the principal regional pediatric ophthalmologist for the tri-state area. In September 1998, Dr. Sherman inaugurated his current practice in Tallahassee, where he enjoys privileges at both the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and the Tallahassee Community Hospital. As the only ophthalmologist within 100 mile radius to have received fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus, he considers this to be a particular focus of the practice. Additionally, Dr.  Sherman provides care in general ophthalmology, glaucoma, cataract surgery and oculo-plastics. Botox injections are performed in the office by Dr Sherman for strabismus, blepharospasm and facial wrinkles.

Dr. Sherman has authored several journal publications and is a member of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Florida Medical Association and the American Medical Association.

In addition to his practice in Tallahassee, Dr. Sherman has a satellite office in Dothan, Alabama where he has maintained privileges at Southeast Alabama Medical Center since 1996.
